Police Game Off As Well.
The National Police knockout cup game between Nottinghamshire & Gloucestershire scheduled for this Thursday (28th June), has been cancelled for obvious reasons. Attempts will be made to play this match on Tuesday 3rd July again at Calverton (2pm start). If the Tuesday is called off, who knows when it'll get played!
Sunday Game Off As Well.
Just to complete the 'clean sweep' for the weekend, the Newark Alliance game away to PCC also fell victim to the weather.
Net Night - Tuesday 26th June
As it seems like weeks since we played any cricket, 'Captain Scott' has decreed that next Tuesday (weather permitting) will be an 'intense' net night. With the new net in the garage, still awaiting it's first proper outing, all players are asked to be at the ground for 5.30/6.00pm for a good session both on & off the field! See you there.
1st's Off As Well
The torrential rains have also put paid to the 1st XI's home fixture against Attenborough. It will come as no surprise that 'G.L.A' is not fit for cricket & it could be some time before it is!
2nd XI GAME OFF at Lady Bay
The 2nd XI's game at Lady Bay Boots has been called off this afternoon (Friday 22nd June).
The ground at Lady Bay is currently under water and the match has been called off 24 hours before the scheduled start due to the amount of rain that has fallen over the past 7 days !!.
This means that 2 successive games have fallen foul to the weather in mid-June. That's British weather for you !!.
Notts Women beaten by Sussex
Report courtesy of the Nottingham Evening Post.

Notts Ladies were beaten by 112 runs in the second County Championship Division One game of the season at Calverton last Sunday. On a good wicket, visitors Sussex batted first and recovered from 78-6 to make 196 all out. Incisive bowling from Nicky Shaw (3-20) and Jenny Gunn (3-27) ripped out the Sussex top order and left Sussex in trouble. But a fine seventh-wicket stand between Kate Oakenfold and Alexia Walker helped take Sussex to a competitive but gettable target. Lilly Brown, 15, bowled well at the death to claim three crucial wickets. In reply, Notts were soon in deep trouble after Lauren Hardern and Amanda Bacon were both out to leave Notts on 8-2. That left two England girls at the crease but Jane Smit (right) was dismissed for a duck, leaving Notts with a mountain to climb. Only Gunn (30) showed any application with the bat as the hosts were bowled out for just 84. The ladies now look forward to producing a better performance against Kent on July 14.
Weather puts pay to Saturday Fixtures

Heavy and persistant rain since Wednesday has put pay to both the 1st XI's trip to Plumtree and the 2nd XI's home tie against Thurgarton.
The 2nd XI's game was called off at just before 8am this morning by groundsman John Nester. John said '' As you can imagine the ground is in a horrendus condition due to the heavy rainfall ''.
Plumtree's ground was also suffering due to the conditions so that game was also called off around 8.30am.
Thoughts now turn to next Saturday's matches and hopes for improved weather conditions. The 1st XI will play host to Attenborough whilst the 2nd XI will look for their first victory of the season away at Lady Bay Boots.
1st's Go Down In Poor Show
Well it had been coming since the second game of the season. Apart from the convincing display on the opening day at Southwell, the wheels have been threatening to come off ever since and they finally fell off yesterday at GLA against Balderton. Batting first, we lost our now customary early wickets with both Willow & Stumpy back in the Pav with just 30 on the board. With the 'dream team' batting together a bit of a rescue act took place as Flea & Scotty took the score along to 64 before Flea lobbed a catch & departed for 28. Pedro joined Scotty & some impetus was added to the scoring rate before Scotty had a brain storm & tried to belt the ball to Arnold & lost his middle stump! With Pedro going well & the total progressing to 109-4 with 15 overs remaining, a reasonable total looked on the cards. Wrong! A batting collapse which was calamitous, even by Calvo standards, saw the last 6 wickets fall for 8 runs due to further poor shots & bad running between the wickets. The sight of 'Discopants' charging down the hill was a sight to behold & he did bowl some genuinely quick balls, with the tenth ball dislodging the Baldo skippers off stump, 3-1 off 3 - game on. However, it seemed that our luck had finally run out as former Calvo junior Clipsham somehow scored a valuable 43 despite being dropped on numerous occasions & chipping the ball into no-mans land countless times (oh & being mis-stumped by his mate!). So by the time the second wicket fell, the score stood on 68. Fifty to win & eight wickets left, Baldo were well & truly on top. The spin twins, Crawley & Taylor, were bowling in tandem & all of a sudden wickets began to fall. 68-2 became 78-5 as the Baldo batsmen tried to play some strokes which were equally as bad as some of Calvo's! Did they want to win? surely Calvo couldn't play another 'Get out of jail card'? Nope they couldn't, despite 2 more wickets being taken near the end, Baldo limped over the finish line on 120-7 for a deserved victory. A bad day at the office & some batting form needs to be found before next weeks visit to top of the table Plumtree or it could be messy! Full scorecard (it's not pretty) on the fixtures/results page. MOM - Not awarded, we were crap!

Sunday Match Report v Madni
With the screens up and the ground ready to play nearly an hour before the start time, the Sunday XI were well and truly up for this return fixture against Madni. However with three players still to turn up and no opposition there was still plenty of opportunity for things to go wrong. Given the chance to rectify his earlier point costing lack of result posting, on Saturday Tom Wright was asked by the Captain to confirm a certain players availability for the Sunday game, however when this person still hadn't turned up 20 minutes before the start questions were being asked (with good answers not forthcoming!). Coupled with another players inability to turn up the Sunday XI quickly turned into the Sunday IX . But fear not step up the plate Calvo young guns Brinsley and Billy. Again set with the seemingly simple task of collecting kit from two players' houses in the village Tom set off in the vain of redemption. Alas the start time came and went with the Crusaders still four men down (has brinsley moved to Newark?). One of the most complete Village shambles to have graced the GLA I'm sure. Anyway the game eventually got underway some 20 minutes late with the Wright brothers still off the pitch getting changed. The Consodine got us off to a non spectacular start although the infamous trousers were out in all their disco glory. An early victim for Ricky gave Calvos young guns an early glimmer of hope but as the game went on and the catches went down it was clear that a number of the more 'senior' players had enjoyed their Saturday night that little bit too much. The following passage of play typified the 1st innings. Batsman hits it, Calvo drop it, Rob runs round to stop the ball, he falls over and his trousers fall to his ankles!! Hmmmm Village and comical with it. Still heads were held high with some quality bowling from both Brinsley and Billy (well done to you both) and a hat trick from Rick in the strides - £100 well spent!! Madni closed their innings on 246 for 9 which given the relative inexperience of the Calvo batsmen proved to be about 150 too many. Following his explosive batting the previous day, JJ was promoted to open the innings but unfortunately he came and went followed by a steady stream of Calverton batsmen. Richard Lee held his end with a robust 62 not out, however with Rob being the only other man to reach double figures it was slightly disappointing that no-one could help secure the other end. Still a good effort and a game played in the right spirit and the Madni lads were the first to echo these thoughts. Much amusement from our umpire and Tom Wright both during and after the game, so cheers Tedge and good effort guys, a free week next week -- Hurrah bring on the girlies!! Full scorecard on the fixtures/results page. MOM - Rich Lee - pity he had little support.
1st XI Win in Thriller
Despite the heavy rains during the week, GLA once again looked resplendent for the visit of Radcliffe On Trent. Captain Scott was undecided what to do should he win his game of flipperty coin, so he deliberately lost & we were inserted. With DFD in Tenerife donning the fake Speedo's (what a thought!), Pedro was asked to open with Creepy on a wicket which offered some assistance to the bowlers. However, Pedro batted like Pedro does & smashed the bowling around the park whilst Creepy watched & then 'smashed' a return catch to the bowler. Having been dropped (absolute dolly) Picko, some 30 odd manic runs later, was caught at Long Off by an early contender for catch of the season & the frenetic start was over. 59-2 from 11 overs became 114-6 from 36 overs as all the batsmen struggled to time the ball & some gave their wicket away with poor shots. Mark Haseman & young Jordan Jackson then shared a terrific partnership, with 'Harry' blasting the ball to all parts & 'JJ' more than holding his own against a former Zimbabwean international cricketer. Harry eventually fell for a hard hitting 40 from just 21 balls, whilst JJ & the incoming Harry (Haines) put on another useful 14 runs to take the final score to 178-8, JJ returning to the Pav with a well made 16 not out. Just how useful these late order runs were, would be obvious later. After tea, out we went to field & something most unusual happened. Tim Haines was not opening the bowling having been replaced by Ginger Bill. Now either Bill had been talking the Captain into submission or Scotty had had a bang on the head! But a masterstroke it was. As Billy is still a 'child' (in the eyes of the ECB) he can only bowl so many overs before he has to rest his growing limbs and by having a blast at the start meant more flexibility in what happened later. The other Harry (Haseman) started at the other end & promptly bowled both Openers with full length inswinging beauties, whilst Billy started off with 2 Hainesesq maidens. Dodd & Brown then shared a fifty partnership, until the 'old guard' Haines & Crawley took 3 quick wickets between them reducing Radcliffe to 63-5 to put Calvo firmly in the driving seat. With Creepy snaring wicket number 6 (107-6 off 35 overs), the pendulum had well & truly swung in Calvo's favour. However, in another turn, Brooks & Torr took the total along to 152-6 (just 27 to win off 5 overs) and seemingly well in control. Scotty then decided to have a little bowl of 2 overs or was it 3 or 4...?! in order to let Creepy finish his allotted overs at the top end. But who was going to bowl the last few at the bottom end? With his youthful limbs now fully invigorated, Billy returned to the fray and bowled the best spell of his life taking 3-10 off 5 overs & winning the game with just 2 balls remaining as Radcliffe were dismissed for 164. A hard earned 20 points from a gutsy team effort keeps the 1st XI at the top of the league. Full scorecard on the fixtures/results page. MOM - Hard to choose, Mark Haseman (hard hitting 40 & 2 early wickets) or Billy Armstrong (devastating final burst with the ball). Let's call it a draw! - Men of the Match, Well done.
