Notts Players to Coach at GLA!

Friday 2nd May will see some of the Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club staff at Calverton to assist in coaching the youngsters. It is expected that Chris Tolley &/or Wayne Noon and a player or two will be on hand to offer some expert advice.

Further details will become available nearer the time when the Notts playing commitments are known.

This promises to be an exciting evening for all involved with hopefully a few budding Derek Randall's out there! (OK, Paul Franks' for our younger readers!)

AGM Update

The recent AGM saw one or two changes in personnel. After 16 years of sterling service as Chairman, Mim Davies has stood down for a well-deserved rest! It goes without saying that the Club has achieved so much on and off the field under his Chairmanship, from a new Pavilion to regularly being one of the top twenty Clubs in the County and becoming a Clubmark/Focus Club. Mim, Thank You from all at the Club.

So, 'who's taken over at the helm'? The new Chairman is Derek Pickering, he's certainly got some big shoes to fill! "It's a Post I'm honoured & privileged to hold" Derek told the website, "If the Club can continue to enjoy a similar level of stability & success over the next 16 years, we won't go far wrong"

Good luck to Derek in his new role.

Chris Miller has also stood down as Second XI Skipper to be replaced by the 'evergreen' John Nester; Dickon Perry will be John's deputy.

Notts Representative Game

Calverton have once again be asked to host a Nottinghamshire Under13's fixture & are delighted to do so.

Sunday 29th June 2008 will see Notts entertain Lancashire at GLA. Wickets are pitched at 1.00pm. Let's hope for good weather & a good game & good luck to the Notts boys against one of the stronger counties.

Newark Alliance 2008

At the request of Calverton CC, the Newark Alliance Committee has agreed to the Sunday XI competing in Division 4 next season.

For those of you old enough to remember, the reason the Club entered Sunday league cricket in the first place was to give the younger lads a taste of competitive cricket as the friendlies were getting a little easy for the lads! Due to the ongoing success, promotion has followed promotion & I think it's fair to say that the team have been 'punching above their weight' in recent seasons. With a new 'batch' of youngsters now playing senior cricket it was felt that playing in the higher divisions would not help them progress, hence the reason to drop down a few leagues in order to assist their contributions in the games.

Richard Lee will skipper the side & no doubt a couple of other wrinklies will be on hand to help out! The fixtures will be published soon & posted on here.

Good luck to Rich & the boys next season.

Ground Equipment

All being well there should be a new addition (or two?) in the garage for the start of the new season. Arrangements & enquiries are at an advanced stage for the purchase of a brand new piece of major equipment that will be a tremendous help to the groundstaff. All will be revealed as things progress, only clue is that the new one will be a lot easier to start than the current one as it will have a key to start it with instead of a big handle!
