Season Underway
In unseasonable conditions (the sun was shining!), the 2009 season got underway this weekend with two friendly fixtures at GLA.
On Saturday, Thurgarton were the visitors and a youthful Calverton side gave a good account of themselves despite a six wicket defeat. Batting first, Eddie Lee lead the way with 74 as Calverton posted 168 all out from 40 overs. Bilal Waheed bowled really well taking 3-39 as did Kyle Welch, with Thurgarton passing the total with 2 overs remaining.
On Sunday Mexborough crossed the Yorkshire/Notts border. The average age shot up with the inclusion of Pickering, Crawley & DFD! Again we batted first and DFD opened the innings with an unusually composed 78, with Creepy and Captain Flea posting thirties as the innings closed on 183-8 from 40 overs. Mexborough were never really in the hunt as Bilal continued his fine early season form with the ball returning remarkable career best figures of 6-8 off 7 overs! Kyle again bowled well, Brinsley & Twiggy also getting rid of some 'rust' before the season begins proper next week. Mexborough were around 50 runs short when the last wicket fell.
Two good work outs before the league action commences next Saturday - the 1sts at home to Radcliffe, 2nds away at Wymeswold and the Sunday XI entertain Gotham at home.
