Round Up

Well, the last month has been a tad depressing result wise, culminating in the 1st XI slumping to the bottom of the table in Division A. The 2nd XI have fared somewhat better, winning two & losing two games with all four of these matches being closely fought. The Sunday XI have also suffered a couple of defeats & a victory.

There have been a couple of notable individual performances, Billy Armstrong with his second Sunday ton of the season & Callum Jayes reaching his maiden century in the recent winning draw for the 1st XI at Balderton.

Three very disappointing batting performances saw the 1st XI fail to reach 100 in consecutive matches against Gedling Colliery & leaders Radcliffe on Trent, crashing to heavy defeats. Against Notts Unity, a target of 260 always seemed a long way off, but at least we passed the 100 mark this time & managed to hang on for a draw nine wickets down. Last weekends trip to third place Balderton with a weakened side due to player unavailability, may well have been viewed with trepidation. However, Callum Jayes had other ideas registering his first century for the Club as we posted almost 200 (heady days!). With Bilal Waheed then rediscovering his early season form with the ball claiming four wickets & Tom Wright (remember him?) claiming three on his return from his travels, Balderton were left hanging on for a losing draw nine wickets down & 30 odd runs short. So 18 points gleaned and hope in the fight against relegation.

In sharp contrast, the 2nd XI are scoring runs fairly consistently. Against Bottesford 226 were wracked up lead by Michael Nesters hard hitting 61 & most batsmen scoring twenties & thirties. With Ryan Evans continuing to impress with the ball (3 wickets), Bottesford were dismissed fifty runs shy. Two narrow defeats at home to Wymeswold & away at Ellerslie, were followed by a narrow victory last weekend at home to Notts Unity. The visitors somehow set a target of 186 aided by some poor bowling & amazing decisions! In reply Dave Dean & Kevin Evans laid the foundations & the job was finished (fittingly) by Captain John Nester with a tremendous innings to see us over the line with three balls remaining. Victory for the good guys.

The Sunday XI have recorded two defeats, one game rained off & one wicket victory against Ransome & Marles with Billy Armstrong chalking up his second Sunday ton of the season.

As we enter the final third of the season, there is all to play for, particularly the 1st XI. Last weekends win should galvanise the troops in the battle against the drop.
